How To Treat Chronic Pain In Both Knees With Swelling And Numbness After Falling?

I've been feeling all kinds of pain in both knees for the past couple of months. I'm a dancer. At first the pain wasn't that bad or often, I just felt pain when doing exercises like deep squats and so on. Since then it has just gotten worse and now I've been feeling chronic pain in both knees for at least two-three months. It got really bad after I took a fall to my knee which happened two-three months ago, it left my knee a bit swollen and painful to touch. It feels like a bruise but there is no discoloration, though the skin in the affected area is actually numb. Shortly after that incident my right knee gave a popping sound while I was doing the butterfly stretch and the pain has been there since. Now I can't do the butterfly stretch at all. Hope you could help me explain what kind of injury it is and how I can treat it. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Pain in both knees, swelling, numbness, popping sound, difficulty in performing stretch exercises all suggest degenerative change in the knee joints.
What is your age?
Degeneration of joints is commonly seen during advancing age.
The degeneration is due to wearing away of the cartilages.
The wearing away of the cartilage leads to bony surfaces of the bones.
You need to consult an orthopedician for clinical examination and relevant investigations.
The condition can be managed in initial stages.
Once the damage is complete, no treatment works and joint replacement is the only treatment.

Thanks and take care
