Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi

For constipation the initial and the most important step is dietary modification. If dietary modifications are not done, it will happen repeatedly.

Include plenty of fluids in her diet- water, juices, soups, coconut water, porridge etc. Include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in her diet. Make it a daily routine that she eats atleast one fruit and one vegetable.

Milk in excess will aggravate constipation. Milk should be limited to 2 to 3 glasses in a day.

Encourage her to take lot of whole grain food items than refined ones.

Limit the intake of rice based items, banana, potatoes and high fat food as these will make the stools harder.

If she does not pass stools after these dietary modifications too, then please have her checked by your Pediatrician. Usually first line medications are stool softeners like Lactulose given for a short time duration.
Unless dietary modifications are made, its hard to control constipation.

Hope this answers your query.
Best wishes.
