Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My baby is 4 months old. She is suffering from cough for almost 3 months. I did consult many doctors. But they don’t find any infection in the chest it seems. As per their prescription, i am giving her Asthalin Expectorant 1 ml 3 times a day. But I don’t find much difference for the cough. She coughs 7-8 times a day. She sleeps well, she is getting breast fed well. I don’t give her any other food. I am concerned about giving too much of medicine.
Hi...you are perfectly right...you should be concerned about giving too much medicine. Before coming to this I would like to tell you when a cough needs to be treated - 1. When the cough is disturbing sleep. 2. When there is severe breathing difficulty. 3. When there is bluish discoloration of the lips and fingers. 4. When the cough is disturbing the kids daily activities like feeding..etc
If the above symptoms are not there...I don't thing you need to treat a cough which is coming 7-8 times a day. Actually cough is a protective reflex in a way it brings out the tenacious mucus in the lungs up, and as this age kids cannot spit it out, the mucus gets swallowed and it will come out in vomiting or motion.
