How To Treat Dry Mucus In Nose And Cold Problem ?

When I was 7 my parents went on a family trip to the snow. I didn't have snow boots or anything, and I caught a cold. The problem is that the cold symptoms (particularly the mucus) never stopped since then. I feel fine for the most part... Just that I can barely breathe through my nose at all. There is so much dried mucus that I have trouble breathing. It's always either dried or almost dried... which is a drag because it is a hard to get it out by blowing my nose. I don't have sore throats or fevers or headaches or anything like that, but I do find myself snorting to feel comfortable pretty often. For the most part I can live a normal life... it just really bugs me that I am constantly snorting or feeling uncomfortable because of my nose being so congested. I am 22 years old... and this has been going on since I was 7.Please help! Any information is valuable to me, I just hope there is some kind of cure. Doctors have given me all kinds of nasal sprays that all don't work at all or fix the problem.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

The nasal congestion and post nasal drip (causes the snorting) are likely related to rhinosinusitis. This is inflammation of the nasal and sinus passages.

The most common cause is allergy (allergic rhinosinusitis).

Treatment involves: (1) avoiding any known allergies

(2)oral anti histamines

(3)topical steroid nasal sprays- eg nasonex, nasocort, flonasa, rhinocort
You may need a prescription from your doctor for one of these.

I hope this helps
