How To Treat High Blood Sugars And Sever Fatigue In A Diabetic?

Thank you. Husband uses Insulin pump.. Has been having good blood sugars. Having severe fatigue. Head not clear. Feels confused. Just cannot go. Body aches and feels achy. BP OK. Has small vessel disease heart and brain. 8 stents. Functions pretty well 75% of time. Busy but physically easy job. Even substituted for pastor Sunday. He was brilliant . That s his half time norm. Has had similar episodes before. Has also had2 small CVAs in the past. Great recovery. Residual weakness on one side that s usually hardly noticeable. Both the CVAs do show up on scans. Don t want to go to ER. They would not consider this an emergency. Ideas or suggestions? I am an RN

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear sir

Severe fatigue in diabetes might be due to lot of reasongs
1. High blood sugars
2. Loss of water and electrolytes causing dehydration
3. Formation of ketone bodies due to increased blood sugars
4. Insulin pump blockage due to malinsertion or faulty device.

Investigate the cause of the fatigue with appropriate blood investigations which include
1. fasting blood glucose and post prandial blood sugars
2. ketone estimation
3. blood pressure estimation.

Thanks
