Pediatrician, Surgery 's  Response
Hello
The treatment of congenital hydronephrosis ranges from serial observation to Surgery.
It depends on the function of the obstructed kidney and whether there is improvement in function , static function or any deterioration of function.
The function of kidney is measured by renal nuclear scans ( DTPA scans)
Also if child becomes symptomatic due to the obstructed kidney , it is an indication of surgery.
In your sons case as there is no nuclear scan,it can not be commented. But as the age mentioned is 19 months and no symptoms, we can assume that probably surgery may not be needed but the child should be regularly reviewed by a paediatric surgeon.
