How To Treat Impacted Coin In The Intestine Of A Child?
Some advice please.... my 8 yr old son swallowed a 2 euro coin 11 days ago, it was stuck in the esophagus on the day it happened and he was taken into surgery to have it removed, however they x rayed him in surgery and found it had dislodged and was going to the stomach. We were sent home told to return in 10 days if we do not find it as it would have to be removed. I returned today, day 11, he had x ray which showed the coin in the intsetine. Another Dr told us that we can go home and come back in 3 weeks if we have not found it. Is this last piece of advice ok? I feel like the 2 doctors are saying different things. He has no fever, is eating and going to toilet although with the help of laxatives. He has pain on and off. Many thanks for your time.

Hello, No, the doctor who has advised you to wait another 3 days is right. It is not a harmful one as a button battery and hence you can wait. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr. Sumanth Amperayani, Pediatrician, Pulmonology
