How To Treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome-constipation?

I have been told that I have irritable bowel syndrome-constipation predominant. I only find relief when using laxatives (10-15mg bisacodyl). I don't want to develop carhartic colon, but I'm miserable with only one to two small bowel movements every week or so. This has been occurring for almost 2 years now and has progressively worsened.

Hello,

Constipation can be one of the reasons due to IBS but can also occur due to many other reasons. Hence it is most important to know the exact cause. And It can be done by the following:
-First of all the large bowel needs to be cleaned after a preliminary X-ray of the abdomen. You may need a soap-water enema.
-Get a proper laxative and more importantly stool softener. Change the bowel habits to include high fiber diet.
-Make a list of foods and beverages that cause constipation or hard stool and stop these altogether. Also, watch out for the foods that suit you the most.
-Get a CT scan of the abdomen.
-Test of stool and blood.
-Colonoscopy and biopsy.
-Colon and rectal manometry.
-MRI defecation study helps a lot.
-Per-rectal examination to see for any anal stricture or so.

If all these tests are normal then only can be said to be IBS and then the control of stress, anxiety helps the most. If a specific cause is found out then the treatment will be as per the cause found.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
