How To Treat Loose Motion?

Hello Doctor,
My son has loose motions only in the morning ,very watery noticed it this morning.He goes to motion 4-5 times a day few motions are loose motion few are solid. I m a bit concerned now as this is happening from a week.
Is G-Norm safe to give?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Off and on loose stool alternating with hard stool in a young man or a boy 4-5 times a day can be due to the following reasons:
The commonest being IBS that is irritable bowel syndrome.
Intolerance to certain foods or beverages.
Infection of the intestinal tract.
Least possible is cancer if your son is old- you have mot mentioned the age.
I would advise him the following:
Continue G Norm as it is sort of a probiotic.
First of all, send the sample of stool for tests.
Tests of blood: CBC, thyroid functions, liver functions and so as directed by the clinical evaluation.
Ultrasonography of the abdomen.
A course of an antibiotic and metronidazole.
If this does not work, a CT scan of the whole abdomen and colonoscopy may be required guiding the further management under the care of a Gastroenterologist.
