hi doctor, Patient age is 72 and undergone vascular angioplasty in the right limb. He is having malaria infections and doctor given course for three days. and on the second day, he is very week and RBS is low, can we continue the malaria course or not? Please suggest. The malaria tab give/prescribed by the doctor is Lumerax - 80
Hello Vascular angioplasty is nothing to do with MALARIA . But this patient got LUMERAX i.e. artemether 80 mg and doctor prescribed this treatment for three day and patient is still very weak with low R B Cs. I want to tell you that lumerax is only for acute uncomplicated falciparum malaria . If patient don't have falciparum , why lumerax and most probably this patient may have vivax and treatment is very simple chloroquine for three days as prescribed over treatment slip . When such patient visit I introduce 5-6 intravenous drip of dextrose with ranitidine and M V I . In malaria due to fever and rugs ,usually patient develops hyper acidity and gastritis , weakness ,nausea . So I /V infusion is the best treatment. Good luck.
