How To Treat My Itchy Bottom?

For the last 8 years I have suffered with an itchy bottom. It isn't all the time, mainly when I wipe after emptying my bowel or in the shower when I'm washing. I have been to my Doctor, but they can't find anything wrong. It's driving me to distraction when it is particularly bad - could it be habitual?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Itching at the bottom, particularly after passing motion, after wiping, after taking shower for the past years indicate some or the other problem.
Yes, this can be habitual but then it would have been occurring many more times.
The most probable cause can be as follows:
There can be local dermatitis secondary to sweat secretions that is obliterated by the closure of the cleft most of the times causing the dermatitis, enhanced by fecal bacteria; hence causing itching at particular timings.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Clean the area with plain warm water 3-4 times in a day.
Keep the area dry with Hair dryer.
Apply liquid Povidone iodine once at might and once in the morning and allow it to dry.
Take a course of an antibiotic if the stool shows infection.
Continue probiotics for a longer period of time along with multivitamins acting as anti-oxidants.
This should get alright withing 3 weeks.
If there is something habitual too then you have to purposefully remember this and not to touch the area at all; take medications for itching or habit forming stoppage as per your Doctor;s advise.
I find this answer helpful
