How To Treat Persistent Nerve Pain On The Right Side Of The Body In A Stroke Survivor?

I had a stroke 2 years ago and was left with nerve pain on my right side. I have been taking Gabapentin to help control the pain and recently had shoulder surgery for torn rotator but it didn t relieve any of the pain. what else should I be thinking about doing...doctors,medications,etc. The gabapentin has effected my memory and I am concerned.

Hi,

Well, gabapentin was a good idea. It is quite safe and as an anti-epileptic, it damps down nerves--preferentially pain nerves. The dose can be up to over 2000 mg a day. Lyrica was thought to be quite similar but it's effects are somewhat different. Amitryptiline is a third option. Basically it is not predictable ahead of time what the best will be for a particular person.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
