How To Treat Rheumatiod Arthritis?

MY GP has suggested that I may have rheumatiod arthritis. As she is my new GP and we have not taken it any further yet as I already have a chronic illness and she was, I think waiting for the news to sink in slowly and give me a chance to ask her about it in my own time. MY symptoms are swollen, red itching fingers, severe foot itching at night, and pins and needles in feet often altered appearance of shape of both thumbs which are recenty quite sore, stifnnes in the back and hips, recently very sore shoulder - right, in the last 2 years or so I intermittently feel uncomfortable during my daily walking as my legs and feet feel wobbly. I will ask to be referred to a specialist for assessment.

If I have RA could it also account for aching teeth? Despite up tp date dental treatment my teeth ache considerably.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case with diligence.
Possibility of rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing sodalities can be considered

When such patients come to our hospital I advise them blood test like RA factor, ACCP, ESR, complete blood count, HLA B27.

Rheumatoid arthritis may involve small joints and early morning stiffness in joints, do you have such complain?
Ankylosing spondylitis typically involve spine and hips with other large joint also. There is reduced chest function in this disease. Stiffness in spine is increased do you have such stiffness in spine?

A treatment regimen for Rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis involves medication, exercise, good posture practices, and other treatment options such as applying heat/cold to help relax muscles and reduce joint pain.
NSAIDs, DMARDs (disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs) are sometimes prescribed in more severe cases. These include methotrexate and sulfasalazine.Corticosteroid injections for severe pain and inflammation in a specific joint.TNF-a inhibitors, a newer class of biologic medication.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
