How To Treat Second Degree Burn Due To Sun Exposure?

Hi, I have a second degree burn from too much sun exposure. Fell asleep in the sun. It is on my shoulder and the burn is pretty bad. I have bubbles and blisters everywhere and yesterday my soccer team won and all my friends and I jumped on eachother in happiness and a lot of my blisters poppped and now I just have a bunch of dead skin and an open fresh red skin wound. When I went to put Polysporin or Pure Aloe Vera gel the pain was incredibly painful to the point where I thought my skin was gunna rip off. My mother said she has Fucidin H and tells me its good for infections and burns. I am scared to put it on because it is medical cream and not over the cunter so I'm scared its gunna burn even more. What should I do to treat this burn. Please help me!

Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Acute sunburn can be very painful and discomforting.

If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to take a short course of an oral steroids. Oral steroids are rapidly acting and immediately bring down the swelling and discomfort.

In addition to that you could use topical moderately potent topical steroid+antibiotic combination ointment e.g fluticasone propionate+mupirocin combination ointment (Flutibact ointment), twice daily over the sunburnt skin, for a week.

Fucidin-H would be milder than flutibact ointment but would still do the job for you provided you also take oral steroids. It contains Hydrocortisone which is the mildest topical steroid.

An OTC pain killer/anti-inflammatory e.g ibuprofen or aspirin can be taken twice or thrice daily to relieve the pain and discomfort.

Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day.
