Hi,I have an 8 year old boy who has been diagnosed with adhd. he has been on bifentin and now concerta. on both he seems to plateau after a while of taking it. He his very ultra sensitive emotionally, seems sad lately, lost his appetite at school at lunch, talks of hurting himself or others( but doesn t realize what it means), impulsive and can not concentrate. He is also having social issues at school with his peers as well. I am lost with what else is wrong with the adhd his teacher and school pshycologist has said they have not seen such a severe case and are concerned as well

Hi, Thanks for asking.
If such a child comes to my clinic I would also try adding a non stimulant medications in combination with stimulant medications. For his low appetite he may be given concerta after meals.
In my opinion your child also suffering from depression. Adding antidepressents may also help him.
You may try giving him social skill training. Art therapy may help to give him a appropriate outlet for his feelings.
I hope I have helped you
Thank you.
