How To Treat Skin Infection In Thumb Inspite Of Taking Keflex?

Hi, I have an infection in my thumb (started as a small split in the skin). it has become very painful especially if I accidentally hit it on something (excruciating pain) and it looks like you can see some pus under the skin and nail. The pain from this was also going all up my arm so I went to see a doctor on Monday & was prescribed Keflex. Up until now I have taken 4 tablets and one tablet about 3 hours ago. I m wondering how long the Keflex will take to work? I ask this because the situation doesn t seem to be improving as I am still get pain in my thumb & dull pain in my arm. Last night I bumped my thumb about 3am & then lay awake in pain for about an hour. I m concerned it may turn gangrenous or septic but perhaps I m just being paranoid? Thank you, Scott.

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com. Sorry to heart about your hand and thumb. Do you remember when you hurt your thumb? Think back and try and remember if you were doing yardwork or outside sometime before this happened, gardening is another culprit I see alot. I ask this because if you have a splinter that is lodged in your thumb, no antibiotics in the word will heal it, the foreign body has to be removed, I have seen hair, yes hair cause these abscessed in a hairdresser and only until microsurgery was the hair found in her finger. Therefore I am going out on a limb and suggesting that you have a foreign body as the Keflex should have helped and that pain is definitely out of proportion from just a mere cut. I hope that this helps.
