How To Treat The Chondromalacia?

Hi, I just got a hip arthroscopic procedure 4 weeks ago. I fell in work about 9 months ago and was having a lot of pain even w/extensive P/Therapy. I am currently doing aquatic therapy, however the pain has increased. The surgical report says I had a very large tear and significant chondromalacia, grade 3-4. Is it normal to have increase pain, I can t even drive, and have problems walking. What do you do for chonromalacia? I am 45yrs.old, 5 5, 215pds, presently on a diet. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Chondromalacia is softening of the cartilage,it can be traumatic, degenerative, congenital or syndromic.

In your case it appears to be post traumatic; good thing is traumatic chondromalacia is treatable by surgery and have better results.

surgical options are multiple like arthroscopic debridement ,mosaicplasty or allogenic or autogenous transplant.

In these procedures either we try to regenerate the cartilage or replace them with cartilage from different part of the body or from different human being. Choice of treatment depends on the size of the cartilage defect.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
