Psychiatrist 's  Response
From your description, it seems that your father has a severe manic episode that needs to be treated urgently.
Take him to a psychiatrist as soon as possible.
It helps to remember that his illness won't respond merely to psychotherapy (talk therapy). He needs medicines.
Since he has responded well to medicines in the past, he is likely to respond well again.
Therefore, immediately consult a psychiatrist. Once the current episode is controlled, you may discuss the side effects such as excessive sleepiness if it occurs with medicines.
Hope this answer is helpful.
