How To Treat The Fractured Bone Of Hand?

I broke the bone on the side of my hand (under my pinky finger) the dr. At urgent care wrapped it until I can get in to see a orthopedic dr. He said my bone is split about 2 mm apart. I m wondering what they will do...pin it with surgery, numb it and fuse it back together?

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hello,

As the fracture is just 2mm apart I don't think the surgery will be taken as a choice.

It will be treated with an immobilization using the plaster and wait for 4-6 weeks of time. In this duration, multiple x-rays might be taken to check the healing of bone.

Once the healing is optimum then the cast will be removed and you will be advised to undergo physiotherapy to improve the range of motion of the finger joints and improve the strength of the hand muscles.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
