How To Treat Umbilical Hernia?

Hi, I had a ct scan yesterday due to side pain, and I was told it came back negative for any masses. I was told that I had a tiny umbilical hernia and that was it. They didn t say I needed surgery or to worry about it, but after doing research on the internet about it, I m a little concerned, since it says most adults need surgery to fix it and if you want to get pregnant, you should have it fixed before then. I do not have any pain around my belly button, just some left pain side. Should I not worry and just keep an eye on it? Is it safe to do abdominal workouts? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for posting your concern in the HCM.
I think all adult umbilical hernias should be repaired because of high risk of complications.

Indications for surgery include-
pain,
incarceration,
strangulation,
defect larger than 1 cm,
skin ulceration,
hernia rupture.
As you are having pain, that is also an indication for repair.
However, as your local doctors have opined that there is no need to go for operative repair, I think there must be some rationale. But, you may also take a second opinion from a local surgeon regarding the issue.
Hope you are satisfied with my answer. If you have any further query related to this, please write back.
