How To Wean Off Gabapentin?

I was prescribed gabapentin for shingles nerve pain because UHC would not let me have Lyrica. According to the information on the pharmacy sheet it says to not suddenly stop taking and the prescription was for 90 days. My question is how long should i take this drug and when should I stop, 90 days seems a bit excessive for shingles, thank, you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You can start decreasing dose of Gabapentin once the pain is adequately controlled for a period of 4-6 weeks. The tapering should be gradual in about 3-4 weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
