How To Withdraw From Latuda?

My mother is 85 next month. She was put on latuda 20 mg this summer. she has dementia. She occasionally had some afib which was caught on a routine office visit in october. On December 4, she went in for a procedure to shock the heart... they were unable to do the procedure as she was in normal sinus rhythm, but did a heart cath. She went home to assisted living and a few days later complained of leg pain and the next day was completely out of it, couldn t feed herself, and stared into space. Went to ER, had a blood clot. Was put on medicines to dissolve clot as well as UTI antibiotics. A few days later went to rehab where her blood pressure would drop, had to be on oxygen, and would not open her eyes....was like a zombie. Went back in hospital with another UTI and kidney failure. Now back in a different rehab. Still Zombie like, not connecting brain to body. she has been put on clopidogrel 75mg and taken off multaq 400 mg. I have noticed slurred speech, swollen face, leg swelling, gets nauseated when eating (won t eat much), and is now gagging and seems to have some difficulty swallowing. We have been allowed to discontinue the latuda, but having read up on it, does she need to go cold turkey or gradually wean off? Could the clopidogrel be part of the problems?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is best to taper down dose is Latuda. Reduce 20 mg per week, before completely stopping the medication.
