How Will 5-htp And Melatonin Interact With Zoloft, Xanax And Ambien?

Trying to treat severe insomnia (Started off not sleeping a night to gradually going a week with only 4 hours sleep) due to menopause. fsh and lh super high I have no estrogen left.. Anyways, one doctor prescribed zoloft, ambien cr and xanax (all generic versions). I took 1 zoloft about 5 days ago and stopped it all together. Took one ambien cr the same night and it did nothing so only took it that one night. Xanax for about a week everynight. Went to my regular GP who switched me to Temazepam for two nights before starting me on bioidentical hormones. My doctor told me to stop the temazepam but I could not sleep last night so I took a xanax. I called her and told her - she told me i had to stop all meds and told me to take 5-htp and meletonin. My questions is after taking all of these meds within the last week and 1/2 will the interact with the 5-htp or meletonin

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your doubts

I can understand your concern. You have symptoms related menopause and these are resulting in insomnia. You were advised to take Zoloft, Ambien and Xanax. Zoloft was taken for one day only. You continued Xanax and then advised to take Temazepam and then you again took Xanax (Alprazolam). Now for sleep you have been advised to take 5-HTPn and Melatonin.

If we consider the drugs you took then only Zoloft or Sertraline can interact with these drugs. But you have taken only one tablet that too 5 days ago. Taking single tablet would not cause any much effects on body and in my opinion there will be no serious drug interactions (serotonin syndrome) if you start taking Melatonin and 5-HTPn. So no need to worry. You can start taking these drugs as per your prescription without any fear.

Thanks, Hope this helps. Good Luck
