Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello My wife is having sleeping disorders since a a few months now. She has been advised by doctor to take zolfresh .5 mg and has been doing that off and on whenever required. Now she is trying to conceive. Will the intake of zolfresh have any negative impacts on conceiving?
Yes, it is not safe during pregnancy. Zolpidem is a sedative-hypnotic commonly prescribed to treat sleep problems (insomnia). If taken during pregnancy (especially in the late stages) it may have negative impact on the growing unborn child. It may cause physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms in the new born baby. In addition the baby born might develop breathing difficulties, flabby muscles, low body temperature, and feeding difficulties.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
