Hurt Eyebrow Bone, Puffy, Dark Red Color, Pain While Sneezing, Under The Eye Numbness. Is This Normal?

A friend and I were riding an inter tube behind a boat together, hit a huge wave and the back of her head hit my eye brow bone, in the air not under water! Happened 3 days ago, still is puffy and like a dark maroon color on eye lid! It hurts when I blow my nose and now under my eye near my cheek is all numb, is that normal?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM

It seems to be soft tissue injury . Dark maroon colour on eyelid is due to collection of blood due to rupture of microvasculature . Numbness might be due to injury to superficial nerve fibres. do not worry these will go off gradually.
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to do icing over affected area and take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. If it persist get it evaluated by your doctor.

Hope this will helps you. Take care.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. K. Naga Ravi Prasad's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based upon the description, you could have sustained a Hematoma. The numbness may be due to concussion injury to an involved nerve which will usually recover spontaneously within few days once the swelling subsides.

Keep regular ice packing over the injured area once in 2 hours to stop the pain and resolve the swelling.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
