Hurt My Ankle On Rock Climbing. Have Severe Pain. Taking Ibuprofen. What Is The Treatment?
I fell rock climbing and landed on the outside of my ankle. It felt like it crunched but I didn't hear a pop. This was a week ago and I have been able to bear weight and walk with minimal pain. It isn't better but it isn't worse either . do I need to go to a doctor or will it heal on its own? Also I have been icing and elevating and taking ibuprofen.
Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM. I suspect that you could have injured the ligaments in and around the ankle joint. The initial management would be the same what you are doing now. The injured soft tissues usually take 2-3 weeks time to heal. So continue the same regime and wait for two more weeks. If you are not improving, then an Xray is needed to rule out any bony injury followed by MRI scan to diagnose any ligamentous disruption. You should consult an ortho surgeon and follow his advise accordingly. Hope this helps
