Hurt Toe. Pain While Walking. Swollen, Not Bruised. See A Doctor?

My dad stubbed his toe on the corner of a concrete wall last night. He was in immense amounts of pain. (i have broken my 5th metatarsel before and fully sympathise!) it is on the baby toe, at the lump which connects the metatarsel and the phlanx..he is still in pain when he walks, it is swollen but not bruised and shoes are uncomfortable. should he get checked out at our local minor injuries centre?

Hi thanks for query,
Normally afoot injuries are common in elderly as they stumble upon walls, corner tables, door steps etc and most of them suffer from some form of minor fractures of bones of toes and foot. On the complaints you had described it is better to visit local health center and get an x ray. Depending on the fracture pattern you would be advised rest or some form of strapping of the toes for splinting the fracture. I don't think it would be serious injury.
