Hypertension. On Medication For High BP. Urine Report Showed Pus Cells, Prescribed Antibiotics And Kidney Biopsy. History Of PCOs. Is Biopsy Required?
Hi Doc,my wife is 32,and has hypertension for the past 4 years.She's been under medication ever since to control blood pressure and it is only recently that she met a Nephrologist by recommendation of a cardiologist.She's been undergoing various tests and almost every test result turned out normal except the urine full report showing a bit more pus cells than normal.Antibiotics were given(apart from her normal pressure medicine) for a couple of weeks assuming a urine infection.After these various tests she was asked to do a kidney biopsy which is quite expensive for us in our country.My question is Doc with the info I have given so far could there be a possibility of a kidney disease.We have no children and she was diagnosed for PCOS a few years back.Thank you!!

Hello.The most common cause of puss cells in urine is the infection of lower urinary tract or infection of upper urinary tract (kidney).
Other non-infectious kidney pathologies that causes puss cells in urine are: Polycystic Kidney, Kydney tuberculosis,Nephropathy by deposit uric acid , Nephropathy by calcium deposits, Kidney Stones,Nephropathy by use of painkillers( acetaminophen or aspirin).
Is necessary to do a kidney biopsy his wife to rule out that she can have some of these pathologies.
