I Burped At The Same Time As I Was Taking A Breath, Why?

Dear Dr.: This morning, during breakfast, I burped at the same time as I was taking a breath -- and I must have aspirated a small amount of that burp. I coughed quite a bit, felt fine...and now, 18 hours later or so, I feel somewhat uncomfortable and am still coughing. Is this something to worry about? Thanks for your reply, Dave

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
While burping if some part is aspirated, some of the fine food particles might have gone inside your respiratory tract causing the irritation. The cough is due to the irritation caused by food particles or the gastric acid. Steam inhalation will help you.
