This is a fairly common problem. Which antibiotics and other supportive medication have you taken recently?
Get a culture sensitivity of your ear discharge done and then change the antibiotics accordingly.
Did you have a cold before your eardrum ruptured or did you damage it while cleaning it? Normal middle ear secretions drain into the nose via the eustachian tube. Therefore secretions will also increase if your eustachian tube is blocked. You will need anti-allergic decongestants and steam inhalation to help open the tube.
You have to get your ear examined to rule out concurrent fungal infection which responds only to anti-fungal medication. Safe ear drops may have to be added accordingly.
The soreness may indicate infection of the cartilage under the skin of the ear and requires aggressive treatment.
I took 10 days of Amoxicillan 875 mg. BID
I also have ear drops
I am on day 4 of taking Amoxicillan 500 3 x a day ( which seems odd that they would give me a weaker antibiotic then what i was previously on)
But I am not the doctor.
I had no cold, no ear aches, and late one night i had sudden piercing pain, and immediate hearing loss, the ER said I had a serious inner ear infection and it caused it to burst.
May be a viral infection. Follow the above treatment plan and see an ENT Specialist for a detailed history, examination and tests to figure out why only one ear is involved.
