Incontinence And Blood In Urine Post Bladder Biopsy. Told Its Normal After The Procedure. How To Overcome This?
Yesterday my husband aged 85 - and normally healthy - had a bladder biopsy. It went well, and there was nothing untoward to report. However in the night, he was suffering much pain and water retention. When he was finally able to pass water it had blood in it, which apparently is quite normal after his particular procedure. Today has not been too bad, but now he seems to have gone to the other extreme, still having pain but seemingly temporarily (he and I hope ) incontinent. he is very distressed by this. Is it normal, and what can we do overnight to ameliorate the situation?

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
After your bladder biopsy, blood or blood clots in urine is common finding. This typically lasts for two or three days following the procedure, but drinking plenty of fluids can help clear these.
Due procedure there will be some amount of inflammation in the urethra causing urinary symptoms, which should be resolved in a 2 or 3 days. If it persists then need to get urine routine and culture for urinary infection should be treated accordingly with antibiotics for minimum 10 days. If incontinence is not getting better could be due to injury to urethral sphincter.
Hope this helps you
Regards
