Infant. Loose, Watery Motions. On Breastmilk And Formula. Test Of Stool Showed Some Rbc. Suggest
hi,
my baby is 3 month old from yesterday,from last week he started passing loose waterymotions 4 to 5 times a day,earlier he used to pass motion pasty only once or twice,he is on breast feed and 90ml formula milk from last one month,is his routine changed,i also consalted my doctor and also gotstool tested,some rbc was found in it,she gave medicines also,but still motion continues 4 times,littli wattery with white granules

Hi dear,
I am really concerned about loose stools with rbcs in it. Cow milk protein allergy usually presents as loose stools with rbcs in stool examination. Discuss with your pediatrician about this diagnosis and my best advice will be to try exclusive breast feeding. She will do fine with only breast feding.

Watery stools and Red cells in blood suggest infection like say dysentery. This can be confirmed by stool culture. In babies less than 6 months.... there is risk of infection spreading to blood. Most doctors will prefer to start antibiotics in such cases. This all can be related to new feeds if they too preceed the onset of loose stools.
Milk bases feeds may need to be stopped if the stool reports presence of sugar and acidic pH.
