Infant. Warm Body And Head. Black Stools. Having Apple Juice, Jaggery With Ghee. Normal Reports. Can Crocin Be Given For Warmth?

My baby is 5 months old and his head is warm most of the time. When I consulted my Paed, he said that unless the temperature crosses 99.5 the baby has no fever. But my mom is a bit worried about this and gives him Crocin syrup thinking he has fever which I object to. Also, at times his palms n feet are also warm. His stool colour is also black, which many people said is bcoz of more iron intake. We give him apple juice once a day approx. 60-70ml and at times jaggery with ghee. Apple and jaggery, both has more iron and this can be the reason behind his black stool. When I got his stool checked, the report was normal. Please help and advise.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi
It is normal for a young baby to have temperature variations of +/-1 degree. If your baby is otherwise active, feeds well and is gaining weight, you need not worry and don't keep giving Crocin unnecessarily. Prolonged use of this medicine can cause damage to the liver so better follow your pediatrician's advice. In hot summer days just give him plenty of fluids and keep him cool.
Let me point out here that head of young children feels warmer than the rest of the body and this is due to thin cranial bones of the skull and a large blood supply to the brain.
The black color of the stools, as you have yourself pointed out is due to high iron content bin jaggery.
