Infant Has Raspy Cough, Has Diarrhea. Ingested Baby Oil. Worry?
baby ingested baby oil and although she was developing a cold previously, she now has a raspy cough ...she drank it last night and poison control was called immediately. He said not to worry, it just may give her diarrhea . ALso took her to pediatrician who kept her in obs. for 2 hours and said she is fine, but that was before the cough developed. Should we be worried?

development of cough could be mean aspiration of the oil ingested.
but cough could also be because of a viral or bacterial infection and it could be coincidental.
monitor the respiratory rate. if you think baby is breathing fast or there are chest retractions or development of fever you may have to contact your doctor immediately

With the ingestion of baby oil there is chances of aspiration pneumonia depending upon amount ingested.
Respiratory symptoms could be a part of viral illness also.
I suggest you to monitor your child for at least 24 hours for any increase in symptoms as increased respiratory rate,any distress and in case you observe get him re evaluated by pediatrician.
