Infant Having Fluidy Lump On The Back Head. What Should I Do?

Hi, about 6 weeks ago I noticed a fluidy lump on the back of my baby s head. It moves about when touched but does not seem to cause our baby any pain. He seems to be in perfect health eating and sleeping well but this lump is worrying it us. It does seem to be getting smaller but it is still there 6 weeks later. Baby is now 5 months old. The first doctor we visited told us it was loose skin and that he would grow into it but we went back this week and the doctor said there was fluid there but he wasn t sure what it was and has referred us to a paediatrician . Can you please give us some guidance? Thanks.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

This is looking like a cystic swelling.

But an ultrasound of the swelling will tell the type of swelling and rule out the other causes such as previous hematoma or abscess.

Consult the pediatrician as per the referral of your GP for physical examination of the child.

Some times, local swellings like meningocele also present in this way, but they will be since birth.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
