Infant Losing Weight, Delivered Through C- Section. Reason To Lose Weight?

Hi, what are the reasons for new-born baby for losing weight? My daughter was born 5 days ago (c-section at 38 weeks) and has since lost 11% of weight... we are still at the hospital as they wouldn t let her go for the weight reason. I am breastfeeding her every 3 hours topped up with some 20-30 ml of expressed breast milk . Thanks

Hi
Newborns usually loose their birth weight during first 10 days due to loss of excessive extracellular fluid from their body and inadequate feeds in the initial 2 to 3 days of birth and it is normal and nothing to worry. You continue to feed with exclusive breast feeds 2nd hourly and weight gain will be there and they reach their birth weight by 10th day of life from there onwards they will gain by 25 to 30 grams every day till 3 months of age.
