Infant Not Having Bowel Movements. Is The Problem Due To Small Rectum?
My baby is 4 weeks old and I ve complained to her doctor that she isn t having bowel movements, and they don t seem concerned. Her poop is soft when it comes and I don t believe she is constipated. I was talking to my aunt and she said her son had the same problem. That his rectum was to small, I think this may be my problem. What do I do???
In general once the baby is defecating, not straining, and the stool is soft (which you indicated), then it is considered to be okay. The frequency of defecation varies and maybe affected by the type of milk the baby is presently receiving.
In rare cases , in babies that are breast fed, bowel movements maybe affected by the diet of the mother.
Symptoms and signs of a problem would be a bloating (due to retention of stool and air), straining, decrease in frequency of defecation, hard stool when it does occur. In some cases where there is an obstruction, vomiting may occur.
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
you need not to worry, babies behave differently and till the time they are comfortable, taking adequate feeds..active there is no problem.,you have also mentioned consistency of stools is soft.,so she is not constipated.I will advise you to give her exclusive breast feeding.
