Infant Passing Stool As Palettes. Eats Formula Food And Semi Solids. Advice?

Hi Doctor, My 7 month old baby is passing stool as soft palettes. Does that mean that she is constipated. She s on formula feed and semi solids. Semi solids include rice based cereal mixed with a pear and vegetable puree (lentils, beans,peas, spinach , carrots and brocolli..she does strain a bit when she passes stool but does not cry or ghet cranky.. thanks Devam

Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Nothing to worry.
It is not looking like constipation, but try to give more dieyary fiber rich food like mashed vegetables, mashed fruits.
Give plenty of oral fluids.
If the child is straining too much, then you can give oral stool softeners like lactulose in prescribed dose.

Hi,
Thanks for asking
Your baby is quite OK there is nothing wrong with her , baby can pass such type of stool on semi solid food. To prevent her from strain while passing try give her food mixed with milk encourage her to take water in addition to usual feedings, you can also give her apple juice in addition. Barley cereals instead of rice can also be useful.
