Infant Suffering From Bad Cold And Chest Congestion, Runny Nose, Vomiting Due To Mucus. Remedy?
Hi, I have an 11 month old baby who had the stomach flu 1.5 weeks ago. he seemed to recover and now has a bad cold . Runny nose , a lot of mucus , and a really bad cough . For the past 4 nights he has been waking up a few hours after i put him down, I nurse him and he vomits everything. I am not sure why but think it has something to do with the mucus, cold and it being harsh on his stomach. He won t drink water nor eat. What can I do and what do you think is wrong?

Thank you for your query,
Your child seems to have upper respiratory tract infection, secondary to a viral illness.
Children have vomitings after cough and it is called posttussive vomiting.
Nose block may be the cause of frequent waking during nights.
Try to give frequent feeds and juices.
If there is nose block you can put saline nasal drops 1 or 2 drops in to nostrils.
Consult your Pediatrician for the examination and treatment.

When there is blocked nose because of cold clearing the nose with normal saline drops. Two drops can be put into each nostril and repeated as required.
A child with cough should be monitored for the following.
1. Rapid breathing
2. Poor feeding
3. Chest retractions
4. Bluish discoloration of lips and fingers
If any of these problems arise please contact your doctor immediately.
