Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Infant Suffering With Cold, Congestion, Fever, Has Low Appetite And Feels Restless, Vomits While Coughing. Suggestions?
Hi Doctor, My 5 month old son is suffering from cold and congestion. He had fever ( around 100F) and was given Calpol every 4 hours. Now the fever has gone. But the cold and congestion is pretty severe. He is coughing and nose is blocked. Expressed breast milk was given but he vomited that while coughing. He is not feeding and is very restless. He has been prescribed Ambrolite - S ( 2 ml three times a day) along with Wikoryl ( anti histamine three times a day) and Nasivion saline drops. We are concerned about his diet as he is vomiting out while coughing. Please advise.
I can understand your concern. However the treatment being given is correct and needs to be followed. Infants do vomit out while coughing and you should not get disturbed with this. Your son should be passing urine every 4-6 hours and if the frequency reduces then you should get concerned.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Thanks for your query.
Your baby is having cold cough ans fever all features of viral illness and will subside in few days..vomiting is associated with cough.
Continue with medication as advised, give steam inhalation during night.
Continue with breast feeding.for vomiting promethazine can be given in prescribed dosage.as it is antiallergic and antiemetic.
In case symptoms persist get reevaluated by doctor.
Wishing your baby good health.
God bless.
