Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

It is ideal to exclusively breast feed the baby till 6 months. Nothing needs to be given other than breast feeding during this period. Not even water.

It is common for breast fed babies below six months of age to not to pass stool for 2 to 3 days. Nothing needs to be done and baby passes stools normally.

If there is perianal rash then zinc containing creams could be used to protect the area. Harsh wiping with rough cloth should be avoided.
Exposing the area to air and avoiding nappies will help.

Hope this helps.
Take care.

constipation is a very common symptom for infants of that age and nothing extraordinary one should do except to give adequate fluids and in exclusively breast-fed infants that's is even not needed. Complimentary feeds do increase roughage to the stools and it's recommended after 5-6 months for infants. So, continue giving as what you do as long as the baby gains weight and look contented as well cheerful. Application of soothing cream in the affected areas is all that's required.
