Infant With Ear Infection. Not Responding To Cefdinir. Taking Augmentin. Chances Of Getting The Other Eye Infected?

My 11 month old baby has an ear infection on her left ear. She took cefdinir on he 5th day I took her in to see her doctor since she was still fussy. Her antibiotics didn't work. She is now on agumentin and is on her 2.5 days now. I noticed that she has been poking her right ear. Is it possible to get an infection on the other ear while on antibiotics?

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Yes, it is possible to have infection even while on an antibiotic. Every antibiotic has a certain spectrum and all organisms need not be sensitive to that antibiotic. It is for this reason culture and sensitivity tests are done.

Secondly organisms are smart and they modify themselves so as not be affected by an antibiotic.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter an early recovery.
