Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Infant With Thick Sticky Stool, Breast Fed Only. Is It Normal?
I have a 3 month old son who is breastfed only and for 1 week now has been having large amount of meconium like stools once a day (thick, sticky, dark brown to black in appearance). Not coffeground stool and not visible blood . Prior he was having mustard to green seedy stool 3 times a day. He is acting normal, maybe a lil gassy, not fussy, no fever ,eating well otherwise. Nothing has changed in my diet . I did contact pediatrician office and they didn t seemto concerned. Just need reassurance that this can be normal.
Hi
Stool color variation is common among the infants and nothing to worry if there are no loose, mucus, bloody and foul smelling stools. Continue exclusive breast feeding and nothing to worry regarding the stool as your child is active.
Hi ,
Thank you for your query.
There is little reason to worry. This happens sometimes due to hyper secretion of bile. Increase the number of feeds.Feed at two hourly intervals.Increasing the hydration should improve the condition.Addition of a probiotic solution should alter the consistency too.Hope this answers your query.Wishing your child a speedy recovery.Have a nice day.
