Intermittent Bleeding After Bowel Motion, Had Flexible Sign, Painful. Reason? Cure?

Five years ago after a bowel motion which was quite hard I had alot of bright red blood on paper and in toilet. I saw a bowel surgeon and had a flexible sigi. which was fine but the top part where he was looking wasn t clean enough for him to see everything. Since then I have had intermittent bleeding on toilet paper and it does feel sometimes sore and as if I have sticks around my backside. I had another bright red blood incident a month ago and again it was quite painful to pass a motion after the bleed and I went back to see bowel surgeon who couldn t see a fissure so wants to do a colonoscopy . I am worried that he s left this too late and given me wrong advice and he will find a large tumour.

Hi thanks for your question.
One of most important point in history you have not mentioned is your age. You had undergone flexible Sigmoidoscopy after an incidence of bleeding per rectum 5 years back, which was reported normal. You again had another incidence of bleeding P/R one month back which was bright red. Bright red bleeding with pain during bowel movement is usually caused by an anal fissure. The second possibility could be Haemorrides.Proctatitis( infection of rectum) could also be a possibility Since you are having intermittent bleeding with pain from last 5 years ulcerative colitis is anther possibility .Possibility of a tumor is less as a tumor for 5 years will increase in size, spread to adjoining structure and would have caused many more symptoms. Go for colonoscopy, with good preparation. Hopefully the surgeon this time will pick up the cause of your bleeding and discomfort.
Hope this answers your question.
