Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Involuntary Muscle Movements All Over. How Can Jitteriness And Spasms Be Stopped?
I m having a problem with involuntary movements all throughout my body. Sometimes I also feel that my heart is racing. In July of this year I had an operation on my back (L4-L5 vertebra fushion). There was a problem with the operation with the screw not seating well and tiny bone chips were scattered around the area. On Aug. 7 they had to go back iinto the sme place where they did what they termed a washout (to remove the slivers of bone within the area). I was sent to a rehabilation home for rehab and within a few days an infection developed and I was sent back to the hospital (on August 12) where they gave me steroids and antibiotics to treat the infection. I stayed in the hospital until August 21 at which time they sent me back to the rehabilation center. I was there until October 2. I am still having the homecare nurse, physical and occupational therapists but I don t seem to be getting much better. My right side is weak and I m still having to use a walker to walk around the house. I was supposed to wear a brace that had been custom fit for me of a hard plastic type of material. I went to the Dr. again yesterday and was told that the whole apparatus has slipped out from where it is supposed to be. The doctor recommended that we wait another 2 months then have a catscan to see if it has continued to move or if the fushion is taking hold. Obviously this has me very upset and my emotions are like being on a roller coaster ride. Today I hurt so much that I could only do part of my exercised. Today I ve experienced a severe case of involuntary movements within my body (all over - not in one general area). It feels like little bug are crawling around inside me. I ve been having smaller bouts of this but today it s been just horrible. I also feel very depressed because I don t know if I m doing the right thing by waiting the two months to determine whether I ll have to go through another operation where he would take out the apparatus and put in a bigger one with larger screws. The process would be starting all over completely. So, my question to you is if you know what all this jitterness and spasms that I can t controll are? Or should I call the neurosurgeon back and talk to him about it. Much thanks. Mrs. Lua Oas Southard
