Irregular And Long Periods With Dark Discharge. Being Off Contraception For 2 Years. Suggest
Hi, I have been off contraception for a couple of years now but am finding my periods are irregular and lasting up to 7 days. I usually have a couple of days of dark discharge then my heavy period for 3-4 days then the discharge again for a couple of days at the end. This time the discharge even though very little is continuing a week after my period. I am 39 years old.

dark discharge can be caused due to-
1.late periods.the old tissue being discarded off leads to formation of brown tissue
2.PID
3.perimenopause, menopause,
4.sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea, Chlamydia or vaginal warts.
i would advise you to consult your OB/GYN if you have additional pain, discharge that is watery or yellowish,pain with intercourse, frequent urination,burning, itching, rash etc.
you can start medication depending on cause of the disease .
