Irregular Heart Beat, Osteoporosis. Taking Diltiazem, Calcium And Vitamin D Tab. Does Diltiazem Prevents Calcium From Reaching Bones?
Does the calcium channel blocker Diltiazem prevent calcium from reaching your bones? I have been prescribed Diltiazem for irregular heart beat but am also taking Calcium and Vitamin D for prevention of Osteoporous and wonder how it can prevent calcium from reaching blood vessels and still allow it to reach the bones at the same time.

There has been research on the topic, The results are unclear, but there is some proof that diltiazem may decrease resorption of calcium into bone by decreasing blood flow to the bone. The effect seems to be very insignificant.
There is a known interaction between calcium and diltiazem. Taking large amounts of calcium along with diltiazem may decrease the effectiveness of diltiazem on heart.
