Irregular Period, After Every 2 Weeks. What Is Possible Cause Nd Treatment?

I'm 46 years old and my body has been doing some weird things. First I started getting my period every 3 weeks, which I thought was a little odd. Now I get my period every two weeks and will last about a week. Its been over a week since my last period and I have noticed that I'm getting a brown discharge. First with a real bad odor but now its just the brown discharge. This has never happened to me before. Is this normal at my age?

Hi and welcome to HCM!

Thanks for posting your query here.

In general females attain menopause at around 40years. While attaining there will be some irregularities like increased or decreased blood flow, changes in the cycle length. The other conditions which will cause increased menstrual flow and shortening of periods are fibroids, iron deficiency anaemia, endometrial cancers.

Fibroids are a collection of the fibroid tissue within the uterus. It is due to the hormonal changes. The large surface area of the fibroid is responsible for the bleeding. Low iron levels in the body causes irregularities in the menstrual cycle. Endometrium is the inner lining of the uterus and is influenced by oestrogen. If this undergoes hyperplasia it results in excessive bleeding. An endometrial biopsy and D&C will be helpful.

All these can be diagnosed by an ultrasonogram and by an physical exam. The treatment depends on the disease condition. Please consult your gynae to confirm the diagnoses without any delay.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Thanks

Hi,
You are 46/F and c/o Your body do some weird things. Recently you had your periods once in 3 wks, later now once in 2 wks and lasts for 1 wk. now you are on the 7th day of your last period you are getting bad odoured brown discharge, now only brown discharge. So far you have not experienced like this before. Regarding your irregular periods you have to understand what is menopause. This irregularity in your periods is the onset of Perimenopause (the time from which menses start to become irregular). perimenopause takes place in the years before and after the final period. Moreover the hormonal changes are gradual. perimenopause effects may be short or can continue even for 10 yrs. So you can call it as onset of peri menopause effects. Regarding your brown discharge consult a gynecologist and investigate whether your irregularity in periods and brown discharge are due to something else. As you don't have excessive bleeding, nothing to worry will be there.
