hello i am a seventeen year old girl who is not sexually active. i went skiing two days this weekend. I noticed some irritation on my vagina , but didnt think anything of it until now. I believe the medical term for it is my labia minora , the pink thing in between the vagina. It is very swollen, red, and irritated. I dont know what to do??? I have taken a hot bath and iced it all day and it seems to just be getting worse. Please Help!

OBGYN 's  Response
hello, Thanks for the query.

Swelling and redness on inner side of labia minora suggests bartholin cyst.

A Bartholin's cyst develops when the duct exiting the Bartholin's gland becomes blocked. The fluid produced by the gland then accumulates, causing the gland to swell and form a cyst. An abscess occurs when a cyst becomes infected.

To diagnose a Bartholin's cyst, your doctor may Perform a pelvic exam.

Daily soaking in warm water, several times a day, may be adequate to resolve an infected Bartholin's cyst or abscess.

Treatment options :
Sitz baths,
Surgical drainage,
Antibiotics,
Marsupialization.

hope this helps,

regards,
Dr Nilofer
