Is 80 Mg Of Atorvastatin A High Dose?

is 80 milligrams of Atorvastatin a high dose? I had a Heartview Screening last year and it showed I had a score of 484.82 total coronaries. I am very careful about what i eat and exercise at least 30 minutes a day. My blood work on my cholesterol all came back normal. The doctor i am seeing now wants to put me on 80 milligrams of Atorvastatin, I am only on 10 milligrams now. i am afraid of the side effects. What do you think?

Hello, Thanks for using Healthcaremagic. i had gone through the details you have posted. according to the recent guidelines the are three intensity of stain intreatment. thry are high, moderate and low depending on the clinical senario, your cholesterol reports, age,ASCVD risk, diabetes.
your doctor may have decided to go for high intensity statin which is 80 mg of atorvastatin or 40 mg of rosuvastatin.
so as per guidelines 80 mg of atorvastatin can be used.
most common side effects of atorvastatin would be muscle aches (myalgias) and hepatitis. kindly consult your doctor if you develop any.
hope this is useful...
